Vancouver - East
Character is the word to best describe Vancouver East which is known for its eclectic shopping and dining areas with a myriad of restaurants, cafes, specialty shops, theatres, and galleries.
This area has a diverse mix of ethnic groups and household incomes vary greatly. Traditionally made up of working class neighbourhoods, in recent years there has been an influx of your professionals, especially in the trendy Commercial Drive and Main Street areas. House prices are lower than in adjacent Vancouver West neighbourhoods, making it popular with professionals who want to be close to downtown but can't afford the higher West Side prices. Older "character" houses can be found throughout the area, especially in the neighbourhoods of Mount Pleasant, Main, Fraser, Commercial Drive, East Hastings, and Strathcona.
Vancouver - West
Vancouver West is known for its close proximity to the beaches, upscale boutiques, designer fashion stores, gift shops, bookstores, theatres, sporting events at GM/BC Place, cafes, and high-end restaurants.
The West Side has several well-established neighbourhoods, each with its own character and unique features. This area has some of the most expensive housing in the Greater Vancouver region including small bungalows, condominium complexes, and multimillion-dollar waterfront estates. Although much of the housing is single family housing, several neighbourhoods such as Downtown, the West End, False Creek, and Fairview Slopes have primarily apartments and townhouse developments. Older "character" houses are also popular, but you can expect to pay a lot for them.
